What's Happening at Pre-School - w/c 28th June 2021

As we reach the last few weeks of our academic year our focus is making sure that those children leaving us for big school are as ready for school as they possibly can be. For our younger children we will be looking towards September and getting them ready to be our new 'big ones'!

Country of the Week

We have visited France, Italy & Spain this term and this week we will be recapping some of what we have learnt. We have learnt how to say 'hello' and 'good morning' as well as counting from 1 to 10.

Sand Play

The sand will be out and hopefully we will be visiting the beach with sea shells and buckets and spades.

Movement Activities

We will continue to practice our skills with bats and balloons as well as playing some movement games like 'What time is it Mr Wolf?' and 'Sleeping Bunnies'.

Science Time

We will be exploring some science activities as well this week. We will be using balloons to demonstrate static electricity, predicting the effect when skittles (sweets) and water meet and then seeing what chemical reaction takes place when vinegar and baking powder are combined!

We hope this information is of use but please get in touch if you have any questions.

What's Happening at Pre-School - w/c 14th June 2021

Phonics

For those children moving onto Reception Year in September we have started to look at letters and the sounds they make. We follow the Jolly Phonics method of teaching the letter sounds by using objects, actions and songs. While it is important that children know the 'names' of the letters it is crucial that they know the sounds that each letter makes as this is an integral part of learning to read.

Here is a link to the Jolly Phonics website if you'd like to know more about this way of learning https://www.jollylearning.co.uk/

This week we will be consolidating our knowledge so far.

Focus Activity

We will be playing some board games to practice our turn taking skills, our listening skills and our ability to follow and understand instructions.

Country of the Week

For the first few weeks of this term we will be talking about different countries, when we would visit them and how we would get there.  This week we will be looking at Italy. We will be talking about the differences between the language spoken by ourselves and by people living in Italy.

Baking Activity

This week we will be making min pizza's; a fun activity using mini wraps as our base and then adding some Italian inspired ingredients.

We hope this information is of use but please get in touch if you have any questions.

Warmer Weather...!

Let's keep our fingers crossed that the good weather we had last week continues! Parents are reminded of the need to send their child to pre-school with a sunhat and with sun cream already applied. We have our own supply of sun cream that we can apply to children throughout the day as needed, or parents can send their child with their own sun cream. This must be clearly labelled and will be retained at pre-school for the duration of the Summer term.

Sponsored Bounce

A big thank you to everyone who has taken part in our sponsored bounce, all the children did an amazing job! Please remember to get all sponsor monies into pre-school by Friday 11th June - Cash or bank transfer - thank you ðŸ™‚

General Reminders......

Name Labels - Please ensure that all of your child’s possessions are clearly labelled with their full name.  All bags, including lunch bags, should be labelled on the outside as we have a number of children that have the same style bag and the lack of a name can cause confusion for both child and staff alike!  If items are found unlabelled we will write names on with a black marker pen.

Uniform – All children must wear a red top or jumper whilst at pre-school.  Tops with the pre-school logo are available at reasonable prices, please see Jayne or Julie should you require any items.

Red Book Bags - All children must have a red book bag that should be brought to pre-school each time they attend.

Clothing – It is imperative that children are sent to school in appropriate clothing.  Children should be sent prepared for the weather with appropriate outdoor clothing as we always try to get outside – whatever the weather!  Footwear should enable children to climb and move with confidence; ill-fitting shoes can spoil their fun when pursuing outdoor activities as well as cause unnecessary accidents.  Indoor clothes should enable a child to be as independent as possible, especially when using the toilet when time may be short! So please avoid using tricky belts or dungarees that could hinder a child’s attempts to get to the toilet on time.

Absence – Absence due to holiday should be notified in writing/email in advance. Absence due to illness should be notified by text by 9.15am (morning sessions) or 12.15pm (afternoon sessions).

All absences must be confirmed in writing.

Children’s Bags - Your child must bring a small bag/back-pack with at least two sets of spare clothes (including socks!) in case of toileting accidents or messy/wet play; please ensure that the bag is of a size that your child can carry themselves and is clearly labelled.

Changes - Please remember to let us know of any changes relevant to your child and their circumstances.  We need to know if your contact details have changed, of any allergies or medical conditions and any other circumstances which may affect your child during their time with us.

Policies & Procedures – pre-school operating policies & procedures are available on our website www.springfieldpreschool.co.uk

Useful Websites – www.foundationyears.org.uk has been developed specifically for parents of children aged 0 – 5 and provides lots of useful information and advice. For information relating to funding, child benefit and more please visit www.childcarechoices.gov.uk
